Emily Jane Powers
Marriage and career have failed to make Emily Jane Powers feel settled. Her new album Restless, written during a period of what Powers describes as "restlessness and discontent" is a bracingly intimate meditation on the strains that monogamy, work, and family place on identity and desire. Whether she's leading a hard-charging rock arrangement or singing quietly to herself, Restless is united by a confrontational level of honesty and vulnerability.
The Jellies is the Chicago-based project of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jenn Romero. Officially starting in 2014, Jenn has called upon various lineups of friends (most often fellow song makers) to bring her songs to life. With a history of creating music for film and theater, her compositions have an evocative, cinematic quality, with her crystal voice always at the center. The most recent set of Jellies songs is the most personal yet; intimate, raucous, gritty, punchy, and devastating.
Tarnynon (Ty-yuh-nuh) Onumonu is a poet and performance artist native to the Jeffery Manor neighborhood on the southeast side of Chicago, IL and is extremely proud of and humbled by her southside citizenship and West African lineage. She is currently producing a memoir, living her childhood dreams and running toward and away from adulting at the exact same speed.
